Tips for Growing Healthy Succulents

Succulent Overview

Whether you are a natural plant lover and careful plant keeper or an absent-minded cultivator with not much time, succulents are great plants to have!

They do not require much water, light or maintenance and besides all this, they are beautiful as decoration.

Learn 5 straightforward strides on how to plant succulents at home!

Tip 1 – Attention to slicing

First of all, you need to take the plant out of the container; this step needs to be executed delicately as we do not want to damage any part of the plant. Besides them being easy plants, any damage at this stage may jeopardize the success of the process.

Once the plant is extracted from its original pot, let it sit for a few hours in a place out of direct sun. It is important that the cuttings are dry.

Tip 2 – Keep watering under control

Succulents do not require lots of water and as so, once the transplant is done, you will not need to water it for the following 4-5 days. Really useful tip to determine how to moisten or hydrate the soil in the pot is to use a bamboo stick.

Insert the stick and get it out to see how far the water has gone. Succulents need to be watered generally once a week.

Tip 3 – The more light, the better

Plants depend on light to perform their energetic and metabolic processes and a special characteristic of succulents is that they need plenty of it.

They can be placed in terraces or indoor gardens that have plenty of windows. When placed in slightly windy areas the succulents tend to expand and have a more extended structure.

Tip 4 – Keep them from the ice

Succulents tolerate high temperatures up to surprisingly rates; however, they are not so adaptable to cold temperatures.

Our recommendation is that if you live in regions that may have ice and snow, you should place your succulents inside during the worst periods.

Tip 5 – Provide them with some extra nutrients

Succulents are not substantial feeders, but it is recommended that during spring when their natural growing cycle starts, you should provide them with some extra nutrients.

These will enable the plant to recover rapidly from a tough winter season.
